As we gear up for the 2014 we would be remiss if we did not recognize one of the most beloved member of the Aldenville Post 337 baseball family.  Harold "Chief" Voelker passed away July 4, 2013 in his "Hometown" of Mooresville, NC.  "Chief" was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran and served as Chief of Police at the Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee.  In addition to his long military service Chief volunteered his time as the team manager for the Aldenville American Legion Post 337 baseball program.  As different head coaches guided the various teams through the 1980's and 1990's, the one constant to the program was "Chief" Voelker.  Throughout the years, Aldenville played in numerous Department (State) Championships and a Northeast Regional Tournament with Chief as captain of the ship.  Nothing put a smile on any of the coach's face more then watching Chief walk down that catwalk at Szot Park the very first day of spring tryouts.  It was a sad day in the spring of 2000 when Harold "Chief" Voelker decided to retire from his position of police chief and baseball manager.  Chief and his wife, Mrs Voelker, made the decision to move closer to his children and grandchildren in Mooresville, North Carolina.   

Even though the Voelker family moved 765 miles away he was never far from the team.  It was not uncommon to receive a telephone call, postcard, and Christmas card.  Chief and Audrey constantly kept tabs on the baseball program via the internet and was never at a loss of words when discussing the team.  CHIEF will be dearly missed by his "BASEBALL FAMILY" here in Chicopee and we send our deepest condolences to the Voelker family

Planning for the 2014 American Legion baseball season is currently underway and we are excited to announce our traveling tournament schedule.  On Wednesday 25 June 2014 the "Senior" team will be heading to Fredericksburg, Virginia to play an independent game against Fredericksburg Post 55.  After spending the night we will continue on to the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area to compete in the Coastal Carolina Invitational Tournament from Friday 27 June to Sunday 29 June.  On the return trip home we will be making an overnight stop in the Washington D.C. area.  While in Washington D.C. we will again play an independent game against a local American Legion team and tour the sites at our Nation's Capital.  On Thursday 02 July 2014 the "Junior" team will travel to the Providence, RI area to compete against some of the best "Junior" American Legion teams on the east coast in the annual "Firecracker Tournament" which runs through Sunday 05 July 2014.

The Chicopee Center Post 452 "Junior" team has been awarded the honor of hosting the 2014 Department (State) Championships. We will looking for volunteers and sponsors for this prestigious tournament that will be held at Frank J. Szot Park on Front Street in Chicopee from 26 July 2014 - 30 July 2014.

There will be a spaghetti dinner fundraising event on Tuesday April 15, 2014.  The Chicopee Center American Legion Post #452 will host this event that is open to the public and will run from 4:30 PM - 7:00 PM in the main banquet hall.  Tickets may be purchased in advance from any player or coach or at various locations throughout Chicopee.  They may also be purchased at the door the night of the event.  Ticket prices are $7.00/adult or $4.00/children 10 & under
